Practical, Real-World Support for Stressed Teens and Parents
Your teen is struggling and you’re watching it happen — the withdrawal, the anger, the anxiety that won’t quit. You’ve tried talking. It’s not working. That’s not a failure on your part. It’s a signal that he needs something different.
Many parents lie awake at night wondering:
These concerns don’t mean you’re failing as a parent. They show how deeply you care about your teen’s wellbeing.
I’ve been working with teenagers since before I was a therapist — over 20 years in student ministry, school-based settings, and private practice. That background matters because teens don’t open up to someone they don’t trust, and trust takes time to earn. I spend time in teen culture so I can talk about sports, video games, and the latest trends. I’ve learned that I have to learn how to talk to them before I can talk to them.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I use CBT and ACT to help teens understand what’s actually driving their behavior — not just manage symptoms, but make sense of themselves. I also know sometimes our behavior is the result of relationship dynamics, so I believe it’s important to work together as a family, too. I’m also BCIA Certified in neurofeedback, which means I don’t just talk about the brain — I’ve studied it at a clinical certification level. When a teen is struggling with anxiety depression, anger, focus, self confidence or emotional regulation, that training changes how I see what’s happening and what we do about it.
The teenage years are a time of intense growth and change. Academic pressure, social media, body image issues, and the threat of bullying and violence are just a few of the challenges they face. Anxiety, depression, and substance abuse are increasingly common, and the stakes have never been higher. Counseling provides a safe, supportive space for your teenager to process their emotions, develop healthy coping skills, and build resilience. When teens know themselves better, they understand how to adapt and wait as they become the person they want to be.
Professional counseling provides your teenager with:
As a Christian counselor, I believe in the power of faith to transform lives. Christian counseling offers a unique approach, integrating spiritual principles and practices to promote healing and growth. Christian counseling isn’t Bible study, but integrating researched interventions with elements of faith. By exploring their struggles through the lens of their faith, teens can find deeper meaning, purpose, and hope. Please note: Christian counseling is completely optional. However, I have many families who appreciate how I can integrate faith into our counseling.
Parental involvement is crucial in therapy. While maintaining confidentiality between Jerred and his clients is paramount, we actively encourage parents to participate in sessions. They are welcome to debrief with us before or after each session, and we also facilitate parent-teen and family meetings as needed. We understand that parents play a pivotal role in their teen’s life beyond therapy.
Additionally, we coordinate care with schools and doctor’s offices, and provide excuse notes for school absences when necessary.
